9/20/2023 0 Comments Rosetta stone vs duolingoAll Netflix Originals come in 6 different languages. I also would highly recommend watching Netflix shows in the language you are learning. All from using (and dedicating) my time and energy between RS and DL. Duolingo can fall short and often ignores the. ![]() It immerses you in not just a language, but also in the culture. But I can tell you that between using these two apps my French comprehension is nearly at par with my Spanish comprehension. Rosetta is much more extensive in its teaching. ![]() The reason I mention my Spanish experience is my variable in comparing it to my French comprehension. What is the difference between Duolingo and Rosetta Stone The main difference between Rosetta Stone and Duolingo are that the lessons from Rosetta Stone are better for visual learners, whereas Duolingo’s language platform is geared more towards beginners. Users can pick from multiple languages broken up into short lessons. Thinking like a native speaker, in my opinion, is the true way to become fluent because the words are rolling effortlessly off of your tongue, you’re not stopping and translating in your head first. Duolingo and Rosetta Stone both offer versions for online and mobile use. However, unlike RS I am constantly translating from English to French in my head or on the app, which slows down my overall understanding of the language itself. I also like the Stories feature, it exposes you to new words and are really fun learning tools. Rosetta Stone is a really well-known name in language learning, and they have really upped their game in recent years with their feature-packed app. It broadens your knowledge of that language and really enforces repetition so that those words and phrases stick in your head, especially with their listening/speaking features. Duolingo has helped IMMENSELY with my vocabulary. However, Duolingo has a premium version called Duolingo Plus which costs 6.99 per month (cheaper than Rosetta stone). However, it would take me a really long time to sit through all the lessons until I can speak French fluently. It directly gives you those images and sounds to immerse yourself as a native would. Pimsleur plans range from 14.99/month to 19.99/month. As for the cost, Pimsleur is more expensive than both Babbel and Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone helps me to think in the language I’m trying to learn. I like Pimsleur, but it is less multi-dimensional than Rosetta Stone or Babbel, offering fewer different types of activities, less responsive technology, and an overall less dynamic experience.(Preface: I took 10 years of Spanish class, am currently learning French on RS and Duolingo)
